“Purlie” and “The Wiz” — along with “Dreamgirls,” which landed just past the decade divider in 1981 — have been well attended since the 1970s. “The Wiz” was made into a film that many Black people regard as iconic, and a revival is playing on Broadway now. It ran for over two years, won the Tony for best musical and best actress (Virginia Capers) and Theatre World awards for three other leads. Musical theater historians tend to blow by it with a couple of respectful sentences. It’s had a regional revival or three, but compared with “Purlie,” “The Wiz” and “Dreamgirls,” it is a dead property.

Here are our thoughts on this season’s inadvertent (and possibly advertent) snubs, delightful (or mystifying) surprises and other notable anomalies. A melancholy morning for ‘Vanya.’Television stars are considered good box office but not always good Tony bait. This year’s crop, including Sarah Paulson, Jeremy Strong, Steve Carell and William Jackson Harper, complicates that wisdom. Spreading all that love helped take the show to Number One with a Bullet — the most nominated play in Broadway history. On the other hand, the superb ensemble casts of “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding” and “Illinoise” were skunked.

Tesla's Cybertruck isn't the kind of car that goes unnoticed. The Cybertruck isn't your average pickupMusk has been hyping up the Cybertruck since it was announced in 2019. But it's not exactly your typical luxury status car, eitherWhile the Cybertruck isn't a traditional pickup, it's not exactly a luxury car. Schele Williams first saw “The Wiz” when a tour of the original Broadway production came through Dayton, Ohio. She even used the show’s soaring finale, “Home,” as one of her audition songs. Now, after working on Broadway as an actor (“Aida”) and an associate director (“Motown”), she is directing the first Broadway revival of “The Wiz” in almost 40 years. It’s a chance, Williams said, to celebrate what “The Wiz” has meant to her and to pass the story along to her daughters. Since becoming a Broadway hit in 1975, “The Wiz,” a gospel, soul and R&B take on Dorothy’s adventures in Oz, largely composed by Charlie Smalls, with a book by William F. Brown, has been a vibrant cornerstone of Black culture.

There I met Nikola Pavlovic, a genial salesman wearing a flamingo-patterned bucket hat atop long hair, canvas moccasins and a shirt covered in psychedelic flowers. This expertise eventually took him to Cookies, where his role is to match customers with the ideal strain for their lifestyles. And, of course, hoodies: Cookies clothing plays a key role in both the brand’s origin story and its current marketing strategy. The brand predates any legal marijuana regime — when Cookies was strictly a black-market concern, hoodies and hat sales allowed it to gain a foothold above ground. And the soft goods give buyers a way to signal something specific to the outside world: I smoke lots of weed, but in the cool Wiz Khalifa way, not the lame suburban-mom way.

A second album was routinely teased in the press — with Combs touting her artistic development: “she’s really cocooned into a butterfly” — but never materialized. “I wanted to go all the way and kind of land in punk,” she said at the time. By 2012, with the release of the single “King of Hearts,” Ventura was still touting a comeback. It would be years before Ventura released music again. According to the singer’s lawsuit, on at least two occasions in 2009 and 2015, Combs beat her after seeing her speak to music managers at parties.

JERUSALEM, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Web Summit Chief Executive and founder Paddy Cosgrave on Tuesday apologised for comments he made on the Israeli-Hamas conflict that prompted some technology companies and investors to withdraw plans to attend its conference in Portugal next month. Web Summit, one of the world's largest tech conferences, will take place in Lisbon from Nov. 13-16, with attendees from companies such as Meta (META.O) and Microsoft (MSFT.O) to investors such as Atomico. "War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are," wrote Cosgrave, who was born in Ireland. Among executives to have cancelled their participation at Web Summit are AI21 Labs' Ori Goshen; Tome's Keith Peiris; Sequoia Capital partner Ravi Gupta; Yinon Costica, co-founder of Israeli cybersecurity unicorn Wiz; and Y Combinator’s Garry Tan, according to LinkedIn and X posts. On Broadway, Off Broadway, in special events and out of town, living authors are collaborating with dead ones. Some otherwise viable shows, like “Annie Get Your Gun,” need surgery because their racial or gender assumptions are now unacceptable. Others, like “Show Boat,” are merely falling out of copyright, with heirs eager to find a way to remonetize their property. And some — well one — are “Here We Are,” the musical Stephen Sondheim was working on when he died in November 2021. Directed by Joe Mantello and with a book by the comic playwright David Ives, it will reflect a very unusual collaboration indeed.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 31 (Reuters) - SentinelOne Inc (S.N) raised its annual revenue forecast on Thursday, riding on resilient adoption of its AI-backed security offerings as macroeconomic fears abate. The cybersecurity company also clarified that it had just canceled a "reselling agreement" with Wiz and their partnership with the startup was still on. Startup Wiz said last week that it was considering a potential bid for SentinelOne, which has struggled to become profitable, after reports that it was considering putting itself up for sale. The Mountain View, California-based company expects revenue for the full-year to be $605 million, up from the $590 million to $600 million range it had forecast in June. The cybersecurity company also forecast revenue of $156 million for the third quarter, higher than analysts' estimate of $154.20 million.

SentinelOne , a cybersecurity company that went public in 2021 and has yet to see its stock price exceed highs from that year, is not for sale, Tomer Weingarten, its co-founder and CEO, told CNBC in an interview Thursday. Bloomberg reported security startup Wiz was considering an acquisition of SentinelOne, pointing to comments from a Wiz spokesperson. SentinelOne shares rose more than 10% in extended trading Thursday after the company reported stronger-than-expected fiscal second-quarter results. The best way to do that is to remain a publicly traded independent company, Weingarten said. Excluding the after-hours move, SentinelOne shares have risen about 14% so far this year, trailing the First Trust Nasdaq Cybersecurity ETF, which is up about 22% during the same period.

SentinelOne has struggled to become profitable, with clients slashing their information technology spending amid an uncertain economy and sticky inflation. Earlier in the week, people familiar with the matter told Reuters the SentinelOne was exploring options that could include a sale.
